AMERICAN CONCEPTUAL ARTIST. ATTENDED THE INDEPENDENT STUDY PROGRAM AT THE WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART. HOLZER WAS ORIGINALLY AN ABSTRACT ARTIST, FOCUSING ON PAINTING AND PRINTMAKING; AFTER MOVING TO NEW YORK CITY IN 1977, SHE BEGAN WORKING WITH TEXT AS ART. SHE WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE ARTIST'S GROUP COLAB. THE MAIN FOCUS OF HER WORK IS THE USE OF WORDS AND IDEAS IN PUBLIC SPACE. ANDREAS FEININGER. GERMAN AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER, AND WRITER ON PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUE, NOTED FOR HIS DYNAMIC BLACK-AND-WHITE SCENES OF MANHATTAN AND STUDIES OF THE STRUCTURE OF NATURAL OBJECTS. FEININGER GREW UP AND WAS EDUCATED AS AN ARCHITECT IN GERMANY, WHERE HIS FATHER PAINTED AND TAUGHT AT STAATLICHES BAUHAUS. IN 1936, HE GAVE UP ARCHITECTURE ITSELF, AND FOCUSED ON PHOTOGRAPHY. IN 1939, FEININGER IMMIGRATED TO THE U.S. WHERE HE ESTABLISHED HIMSELF AS A FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER AND IN 1943 JOINED THE STAFF OF LIFE MAGAZINE. FEININGER WROTE COMPREHENSIVE MANUALS ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY, OF WHICH THE BEST KNOWN IS THE COMPLETE PHOTOGRAPHER. CINDI SHERMAN. AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER, BEST KNOWN FOR HER CONCEPTUAL PORTRAITS. SHE BEGAN PAINTING. "THERE WAS NOTHING MORE TO SAY [THROUGH PAINTING]," SHE LATER RECALLED. "I WAS METICULOUSLY COPYING OTHER ART AND THEN I REALIZED I COULD JUST USE A CAMERA AND PUT MY TIME INTO AN IDEA INSTEAD." SHERMAN WORKS IN SERIES, TYPICALLY PHOTOGRAPHING HERSELF IN A RANGE OF COSTUMES. FOR EXAMPLE, IN HER LANDMARK 69 PHOTOGRAPH SERIES, THE COMPLETE UNTITLED FILM STILLS, (1977–1980) SHERMAN APPEARED AS B-MOVIE, FOREIGN FILM AND FILM NOIR STYLE ACTRESSES. THEIR THOUGHTS ARE USUALLY DESCRIBED AS POST-MARXISM THEY REJECTED MARXIST ECONOMIC DETERMINISM AND THE NOTION OF CLASS STRUGGLE BEING THE SINGLE CRUCIAL ANTAGONISM IN SOCIETY. LINA BO BARDI SPENT THE YEARS FOLLOWING THE WAR DOCUMENTING DESTRUCTION ACROSS ITALY, PARTICIPATING IN THE NATIONAL CONGRESS FOR RECONSTRUCTION. SHE ALSO FOUNDED A WEEKLY MAGAZINE, A CULTURA DELLA VITA, WITH BRUNO ZEVI. IN 1946 BO BARDI MOVED WITH HER HUSBAND TO BRAZIL, A COUNTRY WHICH HAD A PROFOUND EFFECT ON HER CREATIVE THINKING. SHE COMPLETED HER
